Ruthie Foster

After a friend told me about Ruthie, I had the priv­i­lege of attend­ing her per­for­mance at a local cof­fee­house. Her mix­ture of soul, folk and gospel music is enlivened by her inter­ac­tion with an audi­ence. She has an endear­ing sense of humor and a beau­ti­ful, strong voice.

The two CDs I have are very dif­fer­ent but over­lap a lit­tle in style. Run­away Soul is my favorite of the two, being more of a blues album with sev­eral old gospel num­bers. But Stages, her live album, has a haunt­ing ver­sion of Oh, Susan­nah that is not to be missed. I’m look­ing for­ward to lis­ten­ing to her lat­est, The Truth Accord­ing to Ruthie Fos­ter.
